Chasing money!

Just a reminder for those members who have yet to confirm whether they are coming to our Christmas meal on 1 December.  Please speak to Nerissa or Sam promptly as they need to finalise numbers soon.

It will soon be here!

With September already flying by, the decorations will soon be out as the shops start the inevitably long run-in to Christmas.  Before your festive diary begins to fill up with work do’s, family visits and endless shopping trips, make a note of our Christmas meal which is booked in for Saturday 1st December.  After the great evening we had last year, we’re returning to Oddfellows down in Compton and I’m sure it’ll be another fantastic night so make sure you join us.

Speak to Nerissa or Sam for more details, and they’ll happily take your bookings (as well as your money!)

They’re under starter’s orders…

It’s that time of year where the new League season rolls into view once again – and this year there are a few differences!

The biggest change is undoubtedly the addition of a third night just for matches.  With the large numbers now turning up regularly for club nights, and no possibility of booking extra courts on those nights, taking two courts away for matches wasn’t really an option.  So the decision has been taken to book two courts on Thursday evenings for all our home matches.  Club members are welcome to come down and cheer our teams on in any of the matches – pom-poms are optional!

As well as an extra night, we’ve also entered a second Mixed team in the League.  Sadly other clubs have had to drop teams resulting in just the one division.  This means plenty of games for each team including, of course, two inter-club matches – a  chance for some friendly rivalry no doubt!

And finally the summer has brought some new faces to our teams for the upcoming season, the unfortunate loss of Alan Lee as his job search took him to pastures new and the exit of those returning to their studies away from home.  Good luck to Simran and Beth as they start university, and to Isha, Dan and Sunil as they continue – we look forward to seeing you back at the club sometime in the holidays.

Club resumes on Friday the 13th…

After two nights off for the Easter Bank Holidays, now it’s time to start working off those Easter eggs!  Only one match remains, with the Ladies due to face Three Spires up in Lichfield on Friday 20th to bring our League season to a close.

Club nights will continue throughout the whole of the summer though, except for the Bank Holidays and the usual week or two break at the end of August.

Newsflash

Trouble struck late on tonight during one of the last games of the evening – and no, Matt didn’t manage to break another racket!  However with a Mens 1 match on Tuesday evening and Mixed matches coming up on Friday and next Monday, this wasn’t a great time for him to go over on his ankle.

Apparently someone had commented earlier that it’s always the last game of the night that is most dangerous for injuries.  The fact he was playing singles with his Mixed partner Nerissa (and, rumour has it, was losing…) only makes it worse!

By the time the throng of good Samaritans had finally managed to work out how the ice pack worked(!), his ankle was already beginning to balloon.  However after a short rest and a few slow, tentative steps on it, he felt he’d be alright to drive home.  Alan had gamely offered to drive if anyone had any ‘L’ plates – just before Matt began to feel a bit better strangely…

So the well-worn injury rule of ‘plenty of rest’ is now in force.  Try to take things easy and don’t push it.  Hopefully it’s not too painful in the morning – no rushing to switch the alarm offfffffffffff…!

Did someone say it was nearly Christmas?

Matches are now done until the New Year, so enjoy the club nights before they start up again.  The last club night before Christmas is Monday 19th, so come on down because there will still be plenty of time for late night shopping later in the week…!

And the first chance to start working off the extra festive pounds comes on Friday 6th January – just make sure the decorations are down before you come!

Good turnout for Christmas meal

Last Saturday was our Christmas meal at The Oddfellows in Compton.  As usual there were some who weren’t sure what they’d ordered, but lists were on hand to ensure everyone got would they should!  I think everyone seemed to enjoy the evening – certainly people weren’t in a rush to leave afterwards, which has to be a good sign.

Apologies in advance for the photos as unfortunately one or two did not get to ‘star’ in the shots – I blame the photographers…
